Cameroon – Economic: Cameroon Negotiates for her Reinsertion in the AGOA

The minister delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of cooperation with the commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, together with other government officials are currently in the U.S to hold talks with U.S undersecretary of state for African Affairs Tibor Nagy. Top on the discussion list is the idea of reinserting Cameroon into the African Growth and Opportunity Act(AGOA), which is known as a non-reciprocal trade preference program that provides duty-free treatment to the United States importation of certain products from sub Saharan African countries. The U.S had promised to suspend Cameroon from this trade come January 2020 due to reports of gross violation of human rights in the Anglophone regions of the country.
